The misión is one of the hardest but most rewarding experiences of my life and i find myself constantly pleading with heavenly father for help to get through it. Time here passes in a blur it feels like just yesterday i arrived in Mexico but yet im on my 4th week and will hit my month mark this week in mexico. Everyone tells me how quick it goes by and tell me to enjoy everyday because of how quick it all passes i definitly believe them. It took me about 2 weeks to figure out who i was again. I lost myself and couldn´t figure out what was wrong and then i prayed and i prayed and i begged Heavenly father to help me and he did. This 3rd week was a heck of alot better I figured out how to show people who i was even though i couldn´t express myself, through service, love, smiles, and laughter. And even when i felt a Little stab of sadness i smiled and pretended it wasnt there and it went away. The work this week was incredible with my companion. We had our first baptism together of an actual investigator, Javier Ramírez, and i had to teach the restoration in spanish at the baptism it was hard. Anyways while we taught him and i could see how the góspel was changing him i thought of dads experience converting to the church and the spirit touched my heart and i had the strongest impression that Javier wasn´t going to just be another baptism it was going to be a true converter to the Church of Jesús Christ of Latter Day Saints like my dad. I am so grateful for the amazing example you are dad and I share our family story and experience in the temple as often as i can and cry everytime i get to the part when i say "yo se que me familia es eternos y que mediante le templo su familia pueden eternos también." "I know that my family is eternal and that through the temple your family can be too." I love you guys so much and the saying you never know what you have or how good you have it until its gone is so true.
Our Schedule goes a bit like this...
We rise from bed at 6:20 to prepare for morning excersise which we do until 7 usually in the casa because the funny part is that everyone here including my companion thinks its cold here and is wearing coats, hats scarfs the whole shabang we would wear back home and im here in a t shirt sweating in the 75 degree weather.
7-8 we get ready and eat breakfast
8-11 is studying we have an hour of personal which is required to be time Reading the Book of Mormon, and hour of companionship study to practice the lessons we will teach that day and i have started teaching parts of the lesson so now my companion teaches half and i do half. And the last hour is language study she studies english and i study chinese..... hehehe just kidding its spanish in case if i confused anyone. hmmmmm Why would Kayla be studying chinese that doesn´t make sense.. shes in mexico right? Hehe funny thought.
11-12 is training for me where i learn alot of how to be a better missionary.
12-9pm is proselyting time and we arent alowed to knock doors thankfully so alot of the people we teach are referrals from members or people who dont like mormons and want to wish us upon their enemies or people we contact on the streets. we have these pass along cards that have a website wih a video about jesus and christmas its super good its navidad.mormon.org at least in spanish it is. And when we dont have people to meet with we stop families and women and ask them if we can come share a christmas message about jesus and if they say yes and want to learn more after sharing the video we get a new investigator its been really effective and the other day i contacted a random lady on the Street and she agreed to let strangers in her home to share a message with her family and as we set up an appointment and walked off she ran after us to change the date for another day which never happens. Usually people will be like ya whatever here is info as to where we live or no your crazy for even asking that and they just walk off but this lady chased us down! it felt kinda good to have someone that interested.
9-10:30 is in the casa and we take the time to plan for the next day write in journals and get ready for bed.
Meals are really different here you have an on the go breakfast and then around 3 a big lunch with the whole family thats like an hour long and then thats it. And that sounds crazy right that its like 1 actual meal but its all you need trust me. I usually love the food i did have something that i pray never makes back onto my plate its called Chicharone con salsa verde. Its pretty much pig skin fried in soggy bread and doused in really spicy Green sauce and it is the greasyest slithery fatning food i have ever had and im pretty sure that i prayed afterwards to allow myself to throw up of course i wasn´t able to...darn strong stomache Anyways it was worst than muscles mom like that bad and left me with heart burn and luckily i had tums to save the day. I also learned how to make a super tasty and easy dish with pretty much meatballs and rice but its way good.
We also have a new address for letters and packages so make sure you update it.
