Hola!
How is everyone doing! Hope everything is going good on the homefront. Thanks for all the love and support and the awesome package you sent this week! The watch is super cute and perfect and the laundry bag was like a life saver for today because my flimsy hamper broke but hey that's what you get for a buck right? Anyways this week has been so fast and exciting with all the preparations for Mexico. Thursday we had an in field orientation for like 9 hours out of our 14 and we just sat and listened to lectures and did activities and then suddenly the guy lecturing us asked for two sister volunteers...so naturally I volunteered me and Hermana Shupp haha. They asked us to be apart of a skit/play they were doing about ward mission conference or something like that and so me and Hermana shupp were the Relief Society president and the Primary President of the ward in the play. It was quite hilarious as you can imagine I was the Relief Society President and so naturally I had to be like Kallie and try to hug everyone and act super excited about new members and what was going on and it was super fun. Hermana Shupp was the Primary president and she had star stickers which she passed on to everyone being super reverent haha it was hilarious watching her pass out stickers to everyone and talk in this high pitched voice. Then afterwards the rest of the cast that works for the MTC, and some of the actors were actually guys from the district videos so that was cool, asked us to just stay for the full 18 months at the MTC and act with them instead and so now we totally have acting careers in the missionary world......just teasing we just like to pretend we are now famous when we need to laugh.
So awesome story of the week happened today! We were at the Temple and as we were about to leave and cross the street to head back to the MTC Hermana Shupp just stops suddenly for a good 3 minutes. So I waited until I couldn't wait any longer and asked her "hey hermana shupp are you ready to leave yet because i think im starting to grow roots here" real mature thing to say right? Anyways she turns to me and says " I saw a man coming into the Temple that I have seen before and we need to go talk to him...he is in the waiting room at the temple." So we turn back and go check and the guy was totally sitting there in the waiting room of the Temple. We start talking with him and told him that God stopped us and wanted us to talk to him and we got to know him and what his struggles were in his life. his name is Fredrick, and he served a mission about 2 years ago but recently had gotten into some worthiness issues and wanted so badly to fix them so he could go back to the temple. He had promised god that he would go to the temple every week and strive to return again someday, and as he talked about himself my heart ached for him and his pain. I could feel the love God has for him and it touched me so much. We asked if we could help him with something in his life and he said that he had wanted more than anything to put his families names on the prayer roll, because of the struggle they were facing, and felt like a failure for not being able to do so. He also said he wanted a blessing and even though he knew we couldn't give him one he wanted help getting the courage to ask for one from a ward member. So we took his families names and added them to the prayer roll and said a prayer with him that was so powerful because of the love I felt God send through me for Fredrick. We said our goodbyes and bore testimony of Gods love for him and went our separate ways when we came across Theo. Theo was from Vegas and came to Utah to take care of his grandma after his grandpa died, and happened to be sitting on a bench by our apartment building waiting for a friend when we showed up. He said his grandmas friends that she played bingo with were Mormon and said that he could learn more about the weird internet stories he searched at the MTC. He told us about all the crazy lies and stories that circulated and asked why the Mormons never retaliated and why it was the Mormons who were always bashed. He also asked about the Book of Mormon and how it was comparable to the bible and we just sat and chatted with him for a while and cleared up all his questions and became good friends with him. As we got ready to leave he thanked us and told us that he had been sitting there for an hour watching all these people pass by and not one stopped to say hello...isn't that sad? He said he really appreciated us stopping by to talk with him and that even though he met with regular missionaries they treated him differently and he didn't understand alot of what they taught nor did they know how to answer his questions about the church. It was so amazing and we know that God put us in their paths for that reason.
We have about 2 more days of grinding work ahead of us and then its off to the real work! I am so excited and ready I can hardly stand it. Just to let you guys know any mail that you send to the MTC from now on will be sent back and also Dear Elders don't work for field missionaries only for the MTC's. I love you guys so much and can't wait to talk to you on Monday as I mentioned before I will be calling around 6 AM on dads phone and its crucial that you answer because if you don't then it takes like 134 minutes off of my 400 total so please answer! Keep looking for those opportunities to do missionary work and search for referrals or people in need of help from the missionaries. It helps missionaries a ton and is an awesome way to meet new people. Also if you have time then offer your help with lessons and splits with the missionaries because having members present during lessons are major helpful. Its how we got our investigator Andres to commit to baptism and going to church. Love you guys so much and miss you tons!
